Something a brother said to me
by MrFreeze intoday a brother said something to me about my opinions of the doctrinal changes and imperfections of the gb.
he said "there have been many imperfect men in the past who have made mistakes, but god had no problem using those people".
my reply was "yeah, but how many things have they written in the bible that are incorrect?".

Sisters no allowed in KH period!
by life is to short ini just found out during the elders school sisters are not allowed in the kh for any reason.
i have a girlfriend that i became really close to when i was at bethel.
we really were as close as real sisters, in fact i am still closer to her then my own flesh and blood jw sister but with my leaving the jw's it has been hard, she does not have a clue about my true feelings of this cult, i have tried to throw points out to her and she will not get them, she will not let her mind go there.. .

I think its because during those meeting the elders walk around with their Urim and Thummin hanging out.

JWs love that " new generation" teaching- yes, they do.
by moshe infrom a discussion i had with an active sister this past week.
they had no "issues" with accepting the new generation understanding at all, she said.
all the brothers agreed with the reasoning, apparently there were no protests, murmerings or complaints.

Agonus asked, "... What about when 2014 rolls around? How well do you think Invisible Jesus Centennial is going to go over with the tired elderlies who just got the finger from Splane & Co.?"
There is no basis for saying that a centennial of 1914 has any significance. Any chosen date has to conform to "Bible-based chronology™" (BBC™) or it won't fly. The WTB&TS has already made indirect reference to 2034 by pointing to Jesus words about "just as in the days of Noah." Noah preached for 120 years. Add that to 1914 and you get 2034.
Other alternatives involve multiples of 50 years from 1925, which was supposed to be a Super-Dooper-Whoopee-"Here-We-Go"-Grand-Ultimate Jubilee Year. That's one of two BBC™ arithmetics that gave us 1975. Using this model, 2025 and 2075 are candidates.
The second BBC™ arithmetic that gave us 1975 was the Adam's 6,000 birthday celebration. The Society started with the BBC™ of Reverend Usher and modified it through the years. They can tweak that date by any number the "find evidence" for.
The puzzle of how long Adam was alone in Paradise remains. Eve HAD TO have been created in time for Adam to produce his first son when he was 130. Adding 130 to 1975 gives us 2105 which is not a good date to use now because it is too far away for Dub psychology to accept.
When I was a kid I imagined that ALL the WT teachings were brand-new direct revelations from God; that's pretty much what I was taught to believe. Thus, I have always been surprised when I've learned how much of the WATCHTOWER's doctrine came from earlier Protestants that the WTB&TS does not say were in any way special; they borrowed doctrine from "blind apostates" and ran it up the flagpole to see if it would fly.

The WATCHTOWER leadership has the world's greatest scam going, and they know it.
"WE are authorized by God to give you a ticket to salvation! We are the sole channel of communication used by Almighty God today!
The END will come SOON! If you remain faithful to US and die before then, GOD will resurrect you into PARADISE!
The time spent in death will be like a brief nap, BUT YOU MUST REMAIN FAITHFUL TO US TO GAIN THIS BENEFIT!"
It is a nearly perfect scheme. The people who leave are those who:
1. can't abide the rules
2. don't like being told how to think
3. those who are PERSONALLY trodden upon by the treads of the WATCHTOWER machine.
The Sheeple who stay dream of their slice of the big pie in the sky and their mansion on a hill, their pet lions and porpoises, and they roll over and go back to sleep whenever they are told to. Broken families and dead children are not too high a price to pay for THE DREAM.

One that I've mentioned before but misspelled the title of - I thought it was "Mae" - is
"May" (2002) - Psychological horror/dark comedy about a lonely young woman traumatized by a difficult childhood, and her increasingly desperate attempts to connect with the people around her.
...and, as Frank N. Furter himself said, "If you want something visual that's not too abysmal, we could take in an old Steve Reeves movie."
I enjoy dark comedies - no movie is darker than real life - and I like movies about the occult and creepy stuff if they are well executed. (A pun!)
One such I mentioned in the post just above is "Cthulhu", and another one I've recently enjoyed is
"Colour From the Dark" (2008) - Pietro and Lucia live on an isolated farm with Alice, Lucia's younger sister. Their life is peaceful and good, in spite of the hard work. One day, while drawing water from the well, Pietro and Alice accidentally free something from Earth's womb. A strange and alien color flashes underwater, at the well's bottom, then disappears. From that moment on, inexplicable and unpleasant events start happening all around the farm... Based on the H. P. Lovecraft story "The Color Out of Space."
I really enjoy horror, but not gore. In fact, as I get older I think I'm getting a little bit more squeamish. I feel that gore does not necessarily equal horror. Few things are gorier than an autopsy, but to me an autopsy contains no elements of horror - no more than a butcher's shop does, anyway. To me, H. P. Lovecraft is like the antimatter version of Pastor Russell. Lovecraft felt that as we learned more about the nature of the universe, we might find it is more horrible than we imagined. He posited forms of intelligence that were completely alien to the mainstream Protestant mind; intelligences from beyond space and time, or from the depths of the sea, that were completely uninterested in the fate of humanity.
In other words, good stuff.

Wife & I were Without Electricity for 6 Days - Empathize with 3rd World......
by flipper ina massive storm from alaska knocked the hell out of northern california , giving us a foot and a half of snow , snapping trees like matchsticks , crashing multiple electrical lines in the sierra mountains where we live.
knocking electric out for 6 days ( thus my dissapearing act from jwn for 6 days ) - we had a 90 ft. ponderosa pine tree ( 3ft, around ) crash on the lower end of our acre we live on .
it's still leaning on oak trees suspended in time.

Yikes, that's harsh! Did you find yourself eyeing your neighbors covetously, wondering what they might taste like?
It's always good to have a couple of bricks of .22's around. I'm just sayin'...
...and we DO take hot showers for granted, don't we?

Ticket to Heaven (1981)- about the indoctrination and deprogramming of a Moonie - good JW parallels
The Secret In Their Eyes (2009)- Police drama set in Argentina (english subtitles) EXCELLENT (and relatively new).
Cthulhu (2007) - A history professor travels back to his family home on the Oregon coast, which is overrun by members of an unspeakable cult.

Nobody wants to live in paradise
by eric356 ini've got some probably-not-so-original musings about why nobody would actually want to "live forever on a paradise earth.
" these are the sorts of things that probably make every jw kid (or adult) have some doubts, because the problems are so obvious.
the standard jw answer of "it doesn't say in the bible what will happen, we'll see when we get there" or "wait for the new scrolls to be opened" are totally inadequate because the problems involve the very concept of eternal life in paradise.

I think they know that it is a problem they'll never have to address.
Thus there is no need to teach post-Armageddon survival methods, corpse disposal methods, civil engineering, water purification, agriculture, field medicine or any of the myriad other resonable consequences should their fantasy Armageddon ever arrive.
Jehovah will miraculously feed the multitudes with SPAM that is beyond its "good until" date. Mmmm-mmm!
Oh, wait, yeah, they can quick-build Kingdom Halls housing barracks. No need for privacy - boys over here, girls over there. We have too much work to do to even begin thinking about repopulating the world. Put your flesh on hold, Brothers and Sisters. You have eternity.
...and the senile Bethel eunichs smiled, and it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, another dreadful dday begins...
As for the fantasy of livng in the millionaire's house up on the hill - how much fun would that be with no electrictiy or running water or sewer service? ...and you think the Israelites grumbled?
